Well I’m back. Maybe this time I can get this blog off the ground. It’s all about effort I suppose. Taking a break every now and then and just taking the time to review some shots and tell a story.
I recently found myself a summer home. A little spot by the Lake. Working from home because of COVID-19 has allowed me to spend more time here than I most likely would under the old normal. In some ways, I can’t complain for sure. I do miss my office tho!
So this little place is on the coast of Lake Huron. Views like the one above have been plenty this summer. There is much to explore with much to photograph providing much to share. I don’t get out with my camera as much I would like. My work takes priority. That being said, I need to get back to hearing the sound of the shutter clicking away. I need to tell a story.
Does the shot above tell a story? What do you think it is? Every shot has a story…. some are real and some… well … some are just a thought of what we want it to be. Tell me the story of what you see in this image… my story will come later… sail on sailors!
One of the things we love about cruising is an early morning, out on your balcony watching the coastline as you approach port. On this day, we would drop anchor in the bay and tender into port on the ships lifeboats. I snapped this shot just after we had settled in to position and the tender boats began making there way to shore.
The sunlight danced on the water as the morning mist slowly burned off in the distance. Our view was spectacular! New Zealand would not disappoint. Have you ever been to New Zealand? Do you know what port of call this was?
So a year ago I decided to try and revive my blogging. I went out and purchased a new blog title, created this little spot on the web and thought, “Yep, I’m going to do this”! Except one thing happened. I didn’t really do anything except pay for my little spot on the web.
In the last 11 months, I’ve posted a grand total of 6 times. I’d hoped I would post a few times a week but well, I didn’t. I’d hoped I would share all of our travel adventures and give you some insights but… well, I didn’t. I even planned to talk about my take on photography. I didn’t.
So now I need to decide what to do. As WordPress hosts my site, today they sent me a reminder that in a month my subscription will be up for renewal. I didn’t even know I had it set up for auto renewal. I don’t anymore. I changed that today. That way I can contemplate my blogging future.
So now I need to decide. Do I stick with this, do I move it to a different host? Do I even bother to blog anymore? If I do blog what are you interested in? What do you want to see from me? Are you even interested in hearing from me? Is my audience out there? How do I capture them? What do I need to do to grab just a few minutes of their day so they can see what I have to offer.
It’s a tough decision. It’s not about the cost of the blog. Although, I do wonder if I’m just throwing the money away. Especially if I’m not putting up any content. Which brings me right back to that question. What do you want to see? What do you want to read? Should I revamp it all? Should I just walk away? Honestly, I would love to hear from you. I’m ok to hear take off kid (and I’m not really a kid, except at heart) we don’t like what you have to offer. You’ve no idea how to sell yourself to the blogging world etc., etc.
So on that note, let’s hear what you really think. If at all. After all, if I do decide to stay I want to be able to write about things that actually interest the audience. If you do take the time to stop in for a read or to check out a few snaps of my world, then the onus is on me to provide some good customer service and give you what you came looking for. Maybe that’s it…maybe that’s the answer … the only question is “what does bring you here”?
Our most recent trip involved a three day stop in Shanghai, China. Shanghai was a very nice city and we enjoyed our time there. Shanghai would be the embarkation port for our fourteen day Celebrity Cruise on the Millennium. The cruise would take us to other parts of China, into South Korea and then our final stops in Japan. Overall, it was a great trip.
Shanghai is a beautiful city that is very easy to get around in. We spent the day walking everywhere. We ended up having trekked over 32,000 steps on this day. I could write about each location but I thought perhaps my video would be the best way…
Have you ever been to San Juan? It’s has always been one of my favourite stops when cruising. The sail into Old San Juan is one of the most scenic and historic you will ever see in the Caribbean. As you slowly make your way into Port, you travel along the thick and fortified structure of these walls of the old city, hundreds of years old, while off in the distant you catch a glimpse of a landscape that has the old world meeting up with the new world.
At first, when I snapped the picture above it was more about capturing the old city walls but off in the distant was a tour boat replicating an old world sail boat. I imagined what it must have been like for the sailors of the day heading into this Spanish port, on a very similar ship, seeing those walls and what the city had to offer beyond them. Were they friendly, were they a threat, maybe even a pirate or two.
San Juan is an easy stop for a Cruiseship passenger. You can walk just about anywhere in the old town. If you’re looking to shop, there are shops of all stripes and styles. If you’re looking for some history, nightlife or to simply explore Old San Juan is a city that offers it all and it has to be on your list. However, be prepared for some hot and steamy weather. Make sure you stop for some refreshment along the way at the many patios and pubs of the day.
I’ll take you deeper into Old San Juan in some later blogs. Until then I will leave you with some words of Jimmy Buffett when he penned ” Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred years to late! The cannons don’t thunder, there’s nothing to plunder I’m an over forty victim of fate, arriving to late….. arriving to late….
Stay tuned for some adventures coming your way next week as we head off into the Caribbean on the Celebrity Cruiseship Equinox. I’ll do my best to give you some live on the spot reports.
So here I am and I’ve created this travel blog. However, in order to have a successful site, maybe give you some exciting reads and a little advice, you would hope I actually have traveled a little bit. So just where have we been? Let’s take a look in no particular order:
San Juan, Puerto Rico
United States (many states)
Turks and Caicos
I am sure I have forgotten some. However, you can see for the most part, we love the tropical climates the best. Nothing is better than some sand in your toes, a palm tree over your head and a some tropical flavour on your tongue!
Next up for us we will be heading to China, South Korea and Japan.
All in all, I should have lots to write about. If you have any questions about any of the locations I’ve listed don’t hesitate to ask.
